This is a subject that has occupied the thoughts and impulses of men and women since Adam and Eve.God blessed them, saying:
Indeed, some rash 'thinkers' have suggested that Adam and Eve did not eat the forbidden fruit in their offence against God but in fact, indulged in sexuality.
That is pure nonsense of course - utter tripe - Scripture declaring quite plainly that the original sin came about through eating forbidden fruit:-
P 1 3 11 And he said to him: And who hath told thee that thou wast naked, but that thou hast eaten of the tree whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldst not eat?
1 3 12 And Adam said: The woman, whom thou gavest me to be my companion, gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
1 3 13 And the Lord God said to the woman: Why hast thou done this? And she answered: The serpent deceived me, and I did eat.
1 3 14 And the Lord God said to the serpent: Because thou hast done this thing, thou art cursed among all cattle, and beasts of the earth: upon thy breast shalt thou go, and earth shalt thou eat all the days of thy life.
1 3 15 I will put enmities between thee and the woman, and thy seed and her seed: she shall crush thy head, and thou shalt lie in wait for her heel. PGenesis.
However, Scripture has this also, to say:-
P 1 1 27 And God created man to his own image: to the image of God he created him: male and female he created them.
1 1 28 And
Increase and multiply,
and fill the earth, and subdue it, and rule over the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the air, and all living creatures that move upon the earth. PGenesisactually blest
We clearly perceive here that God actually instructed Adam and Eve to engage in sexuality (the act of procreation)!
Unless there is another way to fill the earth.
Not only does sacred Scripture declare that the original sin was in the eating of the forbidden fruit (therefore not involved with sexuality) but declares as well, that man and woman should become sexually related thereby filling the earth (confirming for a second time that original sin did not involve sexuality).
Further, in instructing Adam and Eve to engage in sexuality God, at the same time, blest them and thus
the act of procreation.
Not only did He thus bless sexuality (as intended by Him), but God blest marriage between a man and a woman; for in giving His blessing to Adam and Eve God Himself
our first parents.
In pondering on sexuality then, one has to come to the definite conclusion that procreation is a most wondrous prayer. Perhaps even, the greatest prayer of all. What greater prayer is there
then the act between two people,
a husband and wife,
whereby God Himself is engaged
which results in new life?
After all, the greatest honour given to God is recognition and appreciation of His Acts of creation - that is what Genesis is all about, isn't it?Yet in the marital act,
God is to be adored because He created us and gave us everything we have - and wants to give us much more. God is The Source - God is The Life-giver - God is Creator.
the husband and wife
are actually sharing
in the very act of Creation
of a new life!
I have to conclude that there is no greater prayer then this.Might I say that
It is true that The Sacrifice of Jesus in redeeming creation, is the greatest Prayer. It is the ultimate Prayer. It is The Prayer of The Universal Church perpetuated in Holy Mass since Christ lived upon the earth and which will continue until the end of the world.
Nevertheless, the prayer of procreation in marriage remains beyond comparison. Otherwise, the Mother of Jesus Christ would not have been given to man and we would have been deprived of salvation.
