If there is an excitement, fun or pleasure in the universe, then of course, this is only a pale, pitiful foretaste of the absolute glory, happiness, delight and fulfilment that is to be found in The Kingdom of God.Even more important than
P 48 10 28 And Peter began to say unto him: Behold, we have left all things, and have followed thee.
48 10 29 Jesus answering, said: Amen I say to you, there is no man who hath left house or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or children, or lands, for my sake and for the gospel,
48 10 30 Who shall not receive an hundred times as much, now in this time; houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions: and in the world to come life everlasting.
48 10 31 But many that are first, shall be last: and the last, first. P Mark.
Era of Peace
A statement by the Archbishop of Brisbane follows:-
prayer for peace
I would like all people to pray
the "Our Father" each day
that the Kingdom of God might come to completion.
Once people believe in the Kingdom of God
and pray for it to happen,
then peace will most surely accompany it.
It seems to me that this is marvellous advice which Jesus Himself obviously sought in His Our Father - in fact, it's a simple, clear-cut necessity for every Catholic in the world.it is the Last Supper;
The Archbishop's request is not an onerous one. It even seems too easy and so I have resolved to do just as he asks.
And I ask all who read these columns to do the same.
Mind you, I will continue to pray for the Era of Peace for I believe that this era will happen before the fulfilment of The Kingdom. In doing this, I still perceive the Archbishop's faith in the realisation of The Kingdom and that this realisation can not but include absolute Peace in all creation.
I consider that the Era of Peace will be for a long time but that some evil will persist and re-surface at a future time when the anti-christ will come forward. The great but temporary success of the anti-christ will then result in the Coming of Christ at which time The Kingdom of God will be totally realised.
That being so, even when the Era of Peace is given to the world, we should be praying for the fulfilment of The Kingdom, as the Archbishop asks. Therefore what the Archbishop suggests is not only a wonderful proposal for today and tomorrow, but right up until Jesus Christ comes again.
The urgency of his suggestion will in fact, become more so, even in an Era of Peace.
I therefore thank Archbishop Bathersby for his apostolic advice - I see it in that light - and to hope that everyone follows it.
Father Calvin Goodwin in his sermon on this historical document (see page 8 herein) portrays a grand panoramic view of Holy Mass, while he particularises on the Tridentine Mass.
He reminds us that Holy Mass IS the Sacrifice of Christ at Golgotha.
It is not a repeat - it is not a remembrance only - it is The Same.
It is not an imitation - it is not a portrayal, a theatrical performance -
it is the Passion of Christ;
it is Jesus on The Cross;
it is Golgotha.
It is a long time since I have heard a sermon like that. A long, long time.Thus with Our Lady
He underlines this Truth by his words:-
at the foot of the Cross ...
So, at Holy Mass, we are there at Golgotha, with Jesus' Mother.So, all around the world,
As I read this good Priest's sermon, I recalled the Tridentine Mass of the past and recalled the massive difference compared to the Rite of today.
I recall how the Tridentine Rite was virtually stolen from us. It happened quickly. There was no step by step movement towards the Novus Ordo - it was virtually one day the Tridentine Rite and the next, the Novus Ordo.
Catholics of those days believed in obedience to our Mother The Church, and we, in our astonishment and even in our doubtful frame of mind, thought
OK. The Pope has brought in this new Mass and our Priests are leading us in that direction.
In spite of the trauma and the disillusionment and the myriad of reasons to rebel against this turn-about, Catholics accepted all this in good faith expecting to recognise, as always, the wisdom of The Church, in due course.
Such was the Faith of Catholics of those days!
They followed the Pope and they followed the Priest because they knew their Priest followed the Pope and they knew that they can rely always on the Unity of The Church and The Truth of The Church; that they will never, never be betrayed and deceived.
so powerful was the Faith of the Faithful,
that the instant dismissal of the Tridentine Rite
and the replacement with the Novus Ordo,
went through like a smooth transaction.
