I think that some in the hierarchy expected (and wanted) world wide rebellion resulting in division and confusion and in the longer run, the collapse of The Universal Church. These, in the hierarchy, must have been astounded that their dictatorial action for instant change did not cause massive reaction, everywhere (bearing in mind the change took place in a short number of years for a Liturgy that had been in place for many centuries). Catholics, in those days, were born and bred with the Tridentine Rite and everywhere, the need for the Latin Mass was taught and demanded. She, the unspotted Bride of Christ,
It was Catholic to have the Latin Mass!
However, over the decades the division and confusion did take place as the modernist Priests demanded more and more: change - change - change.
But the modernists did not believe in Christ's promise that His Church would last until the end of time and, as Father Goodwin says:-
always emerges intact
to continue her mission
for the honour of God and the needs of souls
I see our Pope's Summorum Pontificum as a magnificent proof of this, perceivable by everyone in every part of the world.that should have taken place,
I see this Summorum Pontificum as a supreme Gift from The Almighty not as a sign that the Novus Ordo should cease - the Novus Ordo Mass is established and will remain - but as a sign that Holy Mass is the same today as in the days of the Apostles and the Tridentine Rite is a liturgical masterpiece which intimately connects all Rites of all times.
I see this Summorum Pontificum as the loving transaction from one Rite to another
in the first place.
I see this Summorum Pontificum as a reminder that Holy Mass IS Golgotha and that all approved Rites must be given the same reverence - until the end of the world. to the astonishing Reality
The Tridentine Rite has a place in every Parish.
In having experienced the awfulness of modernism and therefore gaining an appreciation of Truth and of The Faith, I now feel that I might participate in the Tridentine Rite with far greater appreciation then ever before.
Even though I did have an appreciation at Mass, in the Tridentine Rite, of a realisation of the Almightiness of Holy Mass, I only came
that Holy Mass
as a result of the modernist invasion
into The Church and the world.
Now that I have this sensational realisation that Holy Mass IS Golgotha, I look forward to participating in a Tridentine Rite so that this realisation can be brought to a new, vivid and divine sensation in that ancient tradition.
The Suffering of Mary
A mother suffers when her child suffers.
A sudden, unexpected infliction of suffering may not be instantly felt and the agony comes afterwards.
With Mary, her suffering began when The Holy Spirit overshadowed her at Christ's conception in her perfect womb, for she knew even then that The Christ was to suffer; for she knew even then, about David's prophecy They have pierced my hands and my feet. They have numbered all my bones.
When The Holy Spirit comes upon a man, that person is enlightened as we often find in Scripture. But the word overshadow (as used for Mary when she was overshadowed by the Most High) is a rare word in Scripture.
P 25 19 7 For a cloud overshadowed their camp, and where water was before, dry land appeared, and in the Red Sea a way without hindrance, and out of the great deep a springing field:
25 19 8 Through which all the nation passed which was protected with thy hand, seeing thy miracles and wonders. P Wisdom.
P 47 17 4 And Peter answering, said to Jesus: Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
47 17 5 And as he was yet speaking, behold a bright cloud overshadowed them. And lo, a voice out of the cloud, saying: This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased: hear ye him. P Matthew at Christ's Transfiguration.
It is common sensical to accept that Mary was enlightened by The Spirit at Christ's Conception when she was overshadowed. Indeed, it would be most surprising if anyone, anywhere at any time, were enlightened more then she - she being The Immaculate Conception, that is to say, a perfect creature even prior to her conception.
But further, we observe that, at Jesus' presentation in the temple eight days after His Birth:
P 49 2 34 And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother: Behold this child is set for the fall, and for the resurrection of many in Israel, and for a sign which shall be contradicted;
49 2 35 And thy own soul a sword shall pierce, that, out of many hearts, thoughts may be revealed. P Luke
So, Mary anticipated, over thirty three years, with the dread of a Mother, her Son's suffering. As the Moment of Golgotha drew nearer, so did the intensity of Mary's agony.
And her suffering was all the more magnified for she was compelled to encourage her Son to embrace The Cross. His destiny was her destiny.
Thy own soul a sword shall pierce are prophetic words that can only be described as a gigantic understatement.
Many a mother would choose to bear the sufferings of her child, rather then have her child suffer, so great does a mother suffer.
But only Jesus could carry The Cross that belonged to mankind. Not even Mary could accomplish that divine Action, but
