Personal Interpretation of ScriptureThe Church Who alone
These 'Christians' no doubt, pore over their Bibles often--as well as learning from others, usually anti-Catholic experts--and they advocate that we learn from Scripture for ourselves as against learning from others, especially from The Universal Church!
It is not hard to imagine the resultant chaos of this. We are well aware of the world-wide damages to Christendom caused by self-interpretation of Scripture.
So, they study Scripture for themselves deciding for themselves the meaning within, and the different interpretations lead to multiple error and division and so we have over thirty thousand 'Christian' denominations.
The self-deception that one will always correctly interrupt Scripture himself without assistance, is quite obvious. Even if the particular English translation was perfect! Even if read directly from the Greek or Aramaic.
On the contrary, we have numerous translations by mere mortals and the variety is quite amazing. Some translations are obviously biased.
Some translations have scriptural books missing!
But the Catholic has scholars and Saints over 2,000 years who have studied Scripture--and from documents no longer available--and we have The Church Who not only wrote the New Testament but decided which books were to be included therein, and those to be excluded--
has the authority
to interpret Scripture.
We have approved heavenly apparitions and locutions as well. And of course, we have Scripture, itself.
P 68 1 20 Understanding this first, that no prophecy of scripture
is made by private interpretation.
68 1 21 For prophecy came not by the will of man at any time: but the holy men of God spoke, inspired by the Holy Ghost. P (Second Peter)And how can I, unless some man shew me?
P 51 8 29 And the Spirit said to Philip: Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.
51 8 30 And Philip running thither, heard him reading the prophet Isaias. And he said: Thinkest thou that thou understandest what thou readest?
51 8 31 Who said:
And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him. P (Acts)in which are certain things
P 68 3 16 As also in all his (Paul's) epistles, speaking in them of these things;
hard to be understood,
which the unlearned and unstable wrest,
as they do also the other scriptures,
to their own destruction.
68 3 17 You therefore, brethren, knowing these things before, take heed, lest being led aside by the error
of the unwise,
you fall from your own steadfastness. P
Disobedience to Scripture
As I have already mentioned, these 'Bible Christians' do not themselves follow Scripture.
I have mentioned devotion to Mary and the leader of Christendom, the Pope, who is Peter. I have mentioned the Priesthood and the Sacraments given us by Jesus Christ, found only in Catholicism and in Orthodoxy. But there are numerous other Scriptural insights with which 'Bible Christians' fail to comply.
Scripture declares that The Church is founded on the Apostles (1 Cor. 3:10--Eph. 2:20--Rev. 21:14).
If these 'Christians' were genuine they would seek out The Church that was founded on the Apostles. They would ask themselves:- Who founded our sect?
If they truly followed Scripture they would observe that The Church is everlasting (Matthew 16:18--28:20) and so it is clearly illegitimate to start a new, opposing 'body of Christ' today or even yesterday. (Rom. 12:4--etc.)
As The Church is infallible, (Matthew 16:18--28:20--Mark 16:16--Luke 10:16--1 Timothy 3:15) shouldn't they absolutely respect instructions from The Church and refrain from attacking The Church as they do on every possible occasion, in every possible way?
They oppose The Church's teaching on Purgatory in spite of Scripture assurances (2Macabees 12:45--2 Tim. 1:16-18--Matthew 5:26--Luke 12:58-59--etc.) one reason being that they have cut out several Books of Scripture; in this matter the Books of Machabees.
Many non-Catholics do not believe in the Scriptural Truth (Genesis 35:18--1 Sam. 28:19--1 Kings 17:22--Matthew 10:28--Luke 8:55--and much more) that the souls survives after death!
Incredibly, they also reject Mary's very obvious title as Mother of God!!
Somehow they believe that Jesus Christ is God-made-man but they can just not accept that His Mother is the Mother of God-made-man!! They should read Scripture:- Isaiah 9:6--Matthew 1:23--Luke 1:32, 35, 43, 2:11--Gal. 4:4 and try to use whatever logic they have.
And to cut a long story short, they should look at Scripture in a new light; in the light of Truth.
