A Word to the Wise

I was shocked, confused, bewildered,
As I entered Heaven's door,
And not by the beauty of it all,
Not by things I'd never seen before.

But it was the folks in Heaven
Who made me stop and stare..
The thieves, the liars, the sinners;
Folks who shouldn't have made it there!

There was the bully from sixth grade
Who always stole my lunch;
Next to him was my brother-in-law,
Who had been a mean old grump.

And, Herb, who I was certain
Was spending his time below,
Instead was sitting on cloud  nine,
Swinging to and fro.

I said to St. Peter, "What's the deal?
I would love to hear your take.
How'd all these sinners get up here?
There must be some mistake!"
"And just why is everyone so still?
And they look a bit stunned, too."
"Well," said he. "They're all in shock.
No one expected to see you!"
