I find it difficult to understand how some 'Christians' have no respect for Mary, the Mother of Jesus?
It is like many things Catholic--there is a certain blindness which seems to come about because of an anti-Catholic attitude. Catholics are devoted to Mary, therefore some think that is a sign it must be wrong!

Does Jesus want His Mother to be honoured by His disciples or does He want them to ridicule His Mother?
To honour her, of course.
Did Jesus command us to love our neighbour? Does that exclude Mary?
Yes and no.
Does Jesus call Mary 'woman'? Does that not mean Mary is The Woman of Scripture?
Yes and yes.
